I Know What I Did This Summer

the paper studio at night
I was gone for a bit this summer, adventuring and I've been wanting to tell you about it.  But I didn't know where to start. Have you had this experience, where you are somewhere else for a time and everything seems so different that new universes seem possible? Then you return to what you are used to, where you are comfortable and you don't want to lose the magic. I feel like the more I talk about it, the farther away it becomes.  Like I am belittling the experience.  Well, I have these photos for you--maybe they can explain.

I drove to North Carolina.  I went to Penland School of Craft for two and a half weeks.  I learned about sculpting paper.  I made things that looked like other things I've made, and then I made more. At the end, they were similar but different. I would like to make more before I tell you about them.  But here are some pictures to start.

Why is it so Difficult to Get Anything Done?

Thanks, Kitten-face. I have finally written my one page essay for my study abroad application. It took me a month. I have yet to start my screen print for the current event exchange. Ok, I have ideas, I keep saying I just need some time to design it but even this lovely grey day, little rain, not too humid or hot, and still nope not done. Do not fear. It will get done. I just keep telling myself I am relaxing and recharging. Soon I will post photos about actual things I've done. Though I think my new copy of Jeanette Winterson's The Passion might be arriving today and it is time for a reread.

Summer Days

Finally the zinna bloomed and I have enough basil for my neighborhood and some. Also, I have this mis-printed journal from Blackbird Letterpress for drawing everyday.

The Brooklyn Museum library digitalized its card catalog and offered the cards to anyone who was interested. I got a hundred and fifty of them and embedded some of them in handmade paper for next month's Keep Writing postcard. You'll have to wait until next month to see what they look like with letterpress and screen print.

One late night after working a little extra, I was looking on etsy for some summer shoes and came across these lovely red shoes, handmade, vegan and comfy. Visit Molly's shop for more.

Come see !

Andy and I took a little drive to Pensacola two weeks ago and this is what I saw. Now I am ready for summer! There is paper to be made, postcards to finish printing but first, blueberry pancakes.
Summer in Louisiana is a good time to do all that computer work I have been avoiding. I finally made a site for you to see all the Keep Writing postcards. I am still scanning them and posting so stay tuned. Also on the internet, swimming holes and beaches within two hours of driving from here. Yahoo!
