I Can't Do It All Alone

As much as I would like to think I am unstoppable, I am tired tonight. No more homework, no drawing, no letters, no more awkard evasive phone conversations with family. Just this double batch of Irish Creme Cookies for me to share with my classes tomorrow.

Labor Indeed

Tropical Storm Lee has moms all over the midwest worrying, but here in Baton Rouge, we are lucky. The rain wasn't too heavy for too long and mostly what we are getting is a lovely and cool Labor Day weekend. No camping or beach this week, but a good chance to post all the things I have been meaning to, like these postcards I printed almost 2 years ago with Ella's help.

Also, to motivate myself a little, I made these chocolate-almond cinnamon rolls (vegan of course) to share with friend at our pre-studio brunch. We both made it to the studio and I made two batches of pulp, including this lovely blue made from scraps.

At 8 pm I was back in the print shop, drinking coffee and preparing for a few hours of drawing and sewing when I was invited over for dinner. So much for the drawing but 8 hours is still a good day of work, I mean, it is what Labor Day is all about. So I left to meet up with other studio art friends and a pile a eggplant parmesan for a full night of fun. Now back to the studio today to sheet that pulp!

Homemade Everything

One of the best things about summer (when I am not in school, anyway) is time to cook. I made these nut burgers last week and didn't have any buns for them to rest upon. And so I stayed home, made some bread and ate an exquisite dinner. Too bad I have to go to work sometimes.

Oh yeah, that is saurkraut made from garden cabbage, too.

Lemon Icing Takes the Cake

Or cookies, in this case. Sort of a Valentine's Day tradition, I like sugar cookies with pink lemon icing to share with friends. One year, I carried a container on my bike while I was at work all day, offering them to anyone I delivered to, including a very appreciative vegan friend. Tomorrow, I will bring these to school. I've only eaten one so far but our house is suddenly full of desserts.
It seems like I've been doing a lot more cooking than printing but don't be fooled. I will have more to show soon enough.

Happy Birthday!!!

Andy's birthday isn't until tomorrow but with a midweek birthday, I made these 2 vegan King Cakes to celebrate this weekend. Two years ago, I tried to impress him with a vegan king cake that he argued was really a cinnamon roll. I'm not from Louisiana. He moved in anyway. But this year, with some help from Kitee and her vegan cook zine Papa Tofu, I made these beauties. I knew things were going well when I made the dough a day ahead, still planning to surprise him and he said "hmmm, smells like king cake in here".

Sweet!

Perhaps you've noticed that a few of my posts are about food. I really like to eat. When I have time, I like to cook, too. This summer, it was too hot to bake a birthday cake in July so I waited until yesterday. This being Louisiana, it was still too hot and humid for the fudge icing to set and the amazing vegan marshmallows kept attempting escape. We brought a big slice up to the garden plot, weeded, planted more lettuce and cucumber, and snacked on sweets as the moon came up.
